"Using Imagery To Boost Your Poetry and Prose"
Facilitated by Kevin Rabas, Poet Laureate of Kansas
Learn how to capture your listener’s attention by using vivid, compelling details. Hone your skills with imagery and description so you can tell captivating stories. Stories particularly about community, conflict, and transformation will be explored. We will study modern and contemporary poets, writers, and storytellers, including James Wright, Yusef Komunyakaa, Aimee Nezhuku-matathil, Aimee Bender, and Donald Barthelme, and spend time sharpening our own skills.
Workshop. Author’s Reception. Reading. All in one afternoon. Patrick Dobson joins us for a one-day workshop and reading. Bring what you’re wrestling with or something new. Participants will work in groups and get feedback from the facilitator, Patrick, on craft and revision. Creative nonfiction, travel fiction, memoir all welcome. After the workshop there will be a short reception with Patrick and Max followed by a reading of their latest works. 1:00pm-3:00pm.
"Write Where You Live" will jump-start your poetry via three lessons exploring the theme of place. 3 poets. 3 perspectives. Sign-up for the workshop. Network at reception and book signing. Stay for a reading from Ruth Williams, Marge Saiser, and Matt McBride.
