MICRO-MEMOIRS: WRITING YOUR LIFE IN SHORT BURSTS

  • The Writers Place 3607 Pennsylvania Avenue Kansas City, MO, 64111 United States (map)

Micro-essays are a popular new genre that is as fun to write as it is to read. In this workshop we will look at examples of very short essays before diving into the creation of new work using prompts and exercises. Participants have the option to share drafts for preliminary feedback.

Kathryn Nuernberger's lyric essay collection, Brief Interviews with the Romantic Past, won The Journal Non/Fiction Prize and was published by Ohio State University Press in 2017. Recent work has appeared in 32 Poems, Cincinnati Review, Crazyhorse, Field, Prairie Schooner, West Branch, and elsewhere. She is an associate professor of Creative Writing at University of Central Missouri, where she also serves as the director of Pleiades Press.
