Michael Harty is a relative latecomer to the poetry scene, but over the past decade he has had poems in such periodicals as New Letters, Measure, I-70 Review, Kansas City Voices, Coal City Review, and others. His poetry is influenced by his rural Texas upbringing as well as by his long career as a psychologist and psychoanalyst; he likes to explore the parallels and the interactions between the exterior and the interior landscapes. Among his
awards and recognitions are Pushcart nominations from three different publications; first place in the sonnet competition of the Nebraska Shakespeare Festival; twice being named  finalist for the New Letters Poetry Prize; and being named finalist in several othercompetitions, including for the Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award. Recently he was also the winner of the Johnson County Library's poetry competition.
