The art photographs of Jim Crabtree grace the walls of the gallery, including some special images of our well-loved castle. Members, please bring your friends to share the wonders of The Writers Place! Not a member yet? Join the club or come to hear more about the perks! Members are encouraged to sign up for open mic slots, each person allotted 5 minutes each. Email nkarsk@writersplace.org or come early and add your name to the list at the door to sign up.

We are offering up some amazing products from Kansas City's local companies in a raffle off as well. All proceeds to support The Writers Place programming. Stay tuned for some of our raffle offerings!

For all new members that sign up during the event, they will receive a a critique of their work – 3 poems or 5 pages of prose - from a published author and current member of The Writers Place. This is a great opportunity for all those new writers!

THE ART PHOTOGRAPHY OF JIM CRABTREE

“Jim Crabtree’s world of photography as fine art is a world of color, movement, pattern, and light. In his creative interaction with each of these elements, he fashions a unique work of art that not only enhances the original scene, but also transforms it… revealing again and again that there is incredible beauty in the most ordinary and humble corners of our universe.”

ARTIST STATEMENT I began my journey as an artist several years ago by exploring the tactile world of pottery. I experienced firsthand the joy of throwing a shapeless blob of clay onto a wheel and watching it become a unique thing of beauty with the interaction of mind, eye, hands, and spirit. I then moved on to the challenge of photography, using HDR software and post production editing to capture distinctive interpretations of the multi-faceted world we live in. You can see more of my art at www.ctree.smugmug.com or at the Phoenix Gallery on the Country Club Plaza.
