Riverfront Readings: James Benger, Jeanette Powers, and Angela Penticoff

The Riverfront Readings series of poetry and fiction readings was started in Kansas City, Missouri in 1986 by Philip Miller and Donn Blevins. In those days, the location actually was in the Riverfront area, in the Kansas City Artists Coalition space. Now they are held at The Writers Place and in other Kansas City area locations. Jeanette Powers is a poet and performance artist based in Kansas City, Missouri. Her current endeavors focus on building the generative performance arts venue, Arts Bar and publishing local poets in the Prospero's POP Poetry: #12poetsin12months Series. POP POETRY is in its 2nd year and has been awarded an Inspiration Grant from ArtsKC. Ms. Powers has three volumes of her own verse published: Absolute Futility, Earthworms & Stars, and Tiny Chasm. She has been awarded an Artist in Residency at Osage Arts Community in the fall of 2016 and she loves her kayak and her hound dog, Olly.

Angela Penticuff has published poetry, flash fiction, short fiction and creative non-fiction in literary magazines in both the United States and Canada, including the local literary magazine BlueMonday Review. She occasionally writes and publishes using the pen name Korbyn James when she wants to feel mysterious. Her subject matter is reflective, relatable and always honest.

James Benger is a father, husband and writer. His work has been featured in several publications including Coal City Review, I-70 Review and Thorny Locust. He is the author of two fiction ebooks, “Flight 776” (2012) and “Jack of Diamonds” (2013) and one chapbook of poetry, “As I Watch You Fade” (EMP 2016). He lives in South Kansas City with his wife and son.
