Join us for an evening with Dennis Etzel and Roderick Townley.

Dennis  Etzel Jr. lives with Carrie and the boys in Topeka, Kansas where he teaches English at Washburn University. He has an MFA from The University of Kansas, and an MA and Graduate Certificate in Women and Gender Studies from Kansas State University. His chapbook The Sum of Two Mothers (ELJ Publications 2013) and My Secret Wars of 1984 (BlazeVOX 2015) have work which appeared in Denver Quarterly, Indiana Review, BlazeVOX, Fact-Simile, 1913: a journal of poetic forms, 3:AM, Tarpaulin Sky, DIAGRAM, and others. He is a TALK Scholar for the Kansas Humanities Council, and volunteers for the YWCA in Topeka, Bird Runner Wildlife Refuge, and other Kansas spaces. Author Roderick Townley has published 16 books, half of them for children. Best known for THE GREAT GOOD THING (the first of a trilogy) and THE BLUE SHOE (illustrated by the Harry Potter artist), Roderick has just published A BITTER MAGIC (Knopf). School Library Journal calls it, “Both gripping and satisfying. Verdict: A magical adventure, a fascinating setting, and some chills that will please most [readers] looking for spooky fantasy.”

He has been honored with the Governor's Arts Award, the Thorpe Menn Literary Excellence Award, the Peregrine Prize for Fiction, a Master Artist Fellowship, a Fulbright Fellowship, Academy of American Poets awards, and Kansas Notable Book citations.
