This four-weekend class will explore the memoir as a literary and personal form of expression and the basis of personal discovery. Over the course of this workshop, attendees will produce a short memoir relevant and important to them.
About Patrick Dobson:
Patrick Dobson has lived most of his life on the fringes of the Great Plains. His first book, "Seldom Seen: A Journey into the Great Plains," was published to critical acclaim in 2009. His second book, Canoeing the Great Plains: A Missouri River summer was published in May 2016 to favorable reviews. He is a writer, college professor, and union ironworker in Kansas City, Missouri. Previously, he worked as a book editor and award-winning journalist. His long-running website, poetrysheet.com. features poetry and short fiction from Dobson and other poets and writers. Dobson writes essays regarding poetry, writing, and the pain and joys of life for his blog, patrickdobson.com. He is an accomplished amateur photographer. He earned a doctorate in History and American literature at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2013. He teaches American History and Western Civilization at Johnson County Community College.
