Seniors, are you looking at college applications and dreading the line that reads “attach a one-page personal statement?” Never fear! The Writers Place is here to help you develop that perfect essay. Over the course of two Saturday workshops, our facilitators will walk you through everything from what a personal statement is, provide tips on what colleges are looking for, and guide you through the process of writing a draft for submitting with your college applications. At the second workshop, students will bring in a rough draft to receive feedback on editing and improving it. Students will leave with confidence in their ability to write a personal statement and will have a draft that can be modified for future scholarships, internships or jobs.
WHAT: By participating in this 2-part workshop series, students will have a prepared personal statement/essay to submit with college admission and scholarship applications.
WHO: High school seniors from any school in the KC metropolitan area. Some juniors might also find the workshops helpful for getting a jump start on college planning and are encouraged to apply.
