POETRY: THE WORLD IN A GRAIN OF SAND
Teaching Artist: Elizabeth Schultz
A poem is short—far shorter than a novel, a drama, a memoir, an essay. A poem, as William Blake said, may reveal "a world in a grain of sand." But I believe a poem can express, compress the entirety of a novel, a drama, a memoir, an essay. The difference between these longer forms of writing and a poem lies in the poet's choice of words and in the organization of the lines.
