If you have a story you want to tell, a poetry chapbook might be the perfect medium. Chapbooks are most enjoyable when the poems work together as a whole. Sometimes the poems follow a narrative arc to tell a story. We will talk briefly about the basic elements of story, then look at your individual poems (one per poet) to evaluate their potential as the beginning of compelling narrative. We also will discuss various decisions that poets must make about their manuscripts: using published poems; revising existing poems to fit the storyline; putting poems in the best order.

Each participant should bring 10 copies of two documents: 1.) a short (less than 50-word) description of a chapbook – either one you are writing or one you would like to write; 2.) the poem you would choose for page 1 of your chapbook.
