The Writers Place Reading Series presents poets Dennis Etzel, Leah Sewell, and writer Phong Nguyen reading from their work. This event will also include a book signing and reception.
Dennis Etzel Jr. lives with Carrie and the boys in Topeka, Kansas, where he teaches at Washburn University. His chapbook The Sum of Two Mothers features work that has appeared in Denver Quarterly, Indiana Review and BlazeVOX. He is managing editor for Woodley Press, volunteers at the YWCA's Center for Safety and Empowerment, and hosts the Top City Poetry Reading Series.
Leah Sewell is assistant editor at Coconut Poetry, an MFA candidate at the University of Nebraska, and a book designer, poet and mother. Her work has appeared in such publications as [PANK], Midwestern Gothic, Spry and Weave Magazine, and was nominated for a Pushcart in 2012. Her chapbook, Birth in Storm, was the 2013 winner of the Emerge Publications Chapbook Competition.
Phong Nguyen is the author of Pages from the Textbook of Alternate History and Memory Sickness. He is an associate professor at the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, where he edits Pleiades and Pleiades Press. His work has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize in every year from 2007-2013, and the story "My Hand Is My Cup" was awarded a special mention in Pushcart Prize Stories 2013. His work has appeared in numerous publications including Iowa Review, Boulevard, North American Review, Agni and Phoebe.
