Using classic and contemporary poems that describe or originate from a specific place, we will journey through the world in poetry. We will also use writing exercises to travel while sitting down. Please submit in advance one of your poems in progress to share on the day of the workshop. (It doesn’t have to be a poem about a place; the choice is yours.) Be sure to make copies for workshop members. (You’ll be notified as soon as possible about the class size.) Also, bring a postcard or photo of a particular place that means something to you that you can share. At the heart of place in poetry is a heart or soul that moves us in more ways than one. This poetry writing workshop is intended for writers at all stages in their vocation. Using reading models, writing exercises, and feedback on your work, the instructor will offer a workshop intended to make a difference in your poetry. The goal is to learn about and write poetry that reaches beyond the workshop to the world.
