Located in the heart of Kansas City, The Writers Place is a literary community center, library, and gathering place for writers, readers and the general public.Our role in the community is to provide support, resources, guidance and inspiration for those in our region who care about the "word" as art.

Join Lawrence's new Imagination & Place Press for the launch of its second annual anthology, Imagination & Place: Ownership. This eclectic anthology offers an array of poems, essays, and fiction. Contributors will be on hand to read from their submissions.

Jason Ryberg and Iris Applequist co-authored Blunt Trauma, a collection of poems released by Spartan Press. Cousin to T.S. Eliot, Lea A. Eliot is writing and illustrating her first book calling on her extensive education in a variety of fields.

Featuring Kevin Rabas & Lindsey Martin-Bowen
Kevin Rabas, co-editor of Flint Hills Review, has two books of poetry, Bird’s Horn and Other Poems and Lisa’s Flying Electric Piano. Lindsey Martin-Bowen's full-length poetry collection, Standing on the Edge of the World, was named one of the top ten poetry books for 2008 by The Gulf Times and the Kansas City Star.

Featuring Walter Bargen and Denise Low
Hear two Poet Laureates! Bargen, the first for Missouri, 2008-2009. Low for Kansas, 2007 to 2009. Bargen has published 13 poetry books and two poetry chapbooks. Low is the author of ten collections of poetry and six books of essays, including a biography of Langston Hughes (co-authored with Thomas Pecore Weso). Both have won numerous awards and honors.

MAIN STREET RAG POETRY SHOWCASE

Featuring Lola Nation and Greta Wilkens
Nation has studied under Allen Ginsberg and Tom Robbins, co-edited a Venice community newspaper for the Poetry & Arts section, and has been published in Cheerybleeds, Thug Works and more.  Wilkens is publisher of "Behind the Stove," a quarterly poetry and art magazine. Her poetry mixes humor with philosophy and personal observations.

Martha Serpas is the author of two collections of poetry, Côte Blanche and The Dirty Side of the Storm. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Nation, and more. Hadara Bar-Nadav is the author of A Glass of Milk to Kiss Goodnight, winner of the Margie Book Prize.  Two chapbooks, Show Me Yours (winner of the Midwest Poets Series Award) and The Soft Arcade are forthcoming in 2010

Novelist Fred Arroyo is brought to you as a collaboration between the Riverfront Reading Series and Latino Writers Collective. Arroyo's novel, The Region of Lost Names was a finalist for the 2008 Premio Aztlán Prize and a finalist for the 2008 One Brown Book, One Nation Reading Program.
