...at The Writers Place The Annual Crystal Field Scholarship Open Mic Reading.  Theme is On the Road.  Call The Writers Place to get your name on the list of readers and join us as we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of this event.

...at the Johnson County Library: Denise Low, Poet Laureate of Kansas and Maryfrances Wagner, author of the new book, Light Subtracts Itself.

 

June 27, 2008 – 7:30 pm

...at The Writers Place: Publication Party and Book Signing. Come celebrate the publication of Light Subtracts Itself by Maryfrances Wagner, MidAmerica Press. Other MidAmerica Press writers will also be celebrated: Bill Bauer, Robert C. Jones, Jeanie Wilson, Brian Daldorph, John Mark Eberhart, Greg Field and Carrie Allison.

The Beats Go On ... a SPECIAL Poets At Large presents: "Burroughs, Kerouac and Beyond," a distinguished panel discusses The Beats – with emphasis on William Burroughs and Jack Kerouac.

...questions and answers following. Then, there will be a musical interlude with Brother Iota followed by Main Street Rag's Beat Reading at 5:00. Anyone interested can sign up with Shawn Pavey that day to read either a favorite beat poem or a beat-inspired poem.

WANTED! Looking for Members to Volunteer

Want a way to help the Writers Place beyond making a financial contribution?  Join one of our committees.  The Writers Place board is looking for members who would like to take an active role in the future of the Writers Place.  We are seeking members who can volunteer on our program, grant writing, outreach, and/or membership committees.  If you are interested, please email director@writersplace.org

 

WANTED!  Writers Place Needs / Items

Cleaning out your garage?  Before you set the trash bags by the curb, look for something that might benefit the Writers Place.  We are looking for items in good condition: podium for readings, tablecloths, dish towels, new coffeepot, air freshener, reliable housekeeper, mop, cleaning products, someone to haul away large items.
